Improvisation and Subjectivity Coordinator: Michela Garda
This section presents several materials documenting the Study Group Improvisation and Subjectivity, which explored the role of improvisation in shaping modern subjectivity. The group’s members include Alessandro Arbo, Alessandro Bertinetto, Vincenzo Caporaletti, and Carlo Serra.
The videos document the lectures of George E. Lewis, Psyche Loui, Christoph Haffter, and Joshua Bergamin, delivered during the symposium Subjectivity and Improvisation, held on the 18th of September 2024 at the Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage (University of Pavia) in Cremona.
The discussions expanded the study group’s focus to include issues related to intersubjectivity, the relationships among performers, instruments, and machines, and the integration of knowledge from neuroscience. The final elaborations of the lectures, along with some new contributions, are collected in the book Musical Improvisation and Modern Subjectivity: Towards an Integrated Philosophical and Musicological Perspective.
