This workshop invites experienced actors, singers, and dancers specializing in theatrical improvisation to explore the intersection of music, theater, and dance.
Morning Sessions: Engage in discussions led by distinguished scholars from various fields of the performing arts, including Sonia Bellavia, Gianmario Borio, Francesca Falcone, Leonardo Mancini, and Franco Perrelli. These conversations will delve into the convergence of rhythm, movement, and expression across different art forms.
Afternoon Sessions: Transition from theory to practice under the guidance of esteemed practitioners Ewa Benesz, Cathy Marchand, and Julia Varley, known for their work with Grotowski’s Theatre Workshop, the Living Theatre, and Odin Teatret, respectively.
Participants will actively engage in improvisational exercises designed to revolutionize their understanding of corporeality, spatial interaction, and audience dynamics.
This unique workshop offers an immersive experience in which the interplay between scholarly insights and hands-on practice deepens the participant’s mastery of improvisational performance.
HOW TO APPLY
Twelve scholarships will be awarded to actors, contemporary dancers, and singers for this workshop. To be considered for selection, candidates must submit their application by November 20, 2024 via email or through the ImproCom website.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed Application Form.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV): Include details of your education (completed or in progress) and any professional experience in the theatrical field. The CV must contain your personal information and contact details.
- Please attach a signed consent for the processing of personal data, specifically for the purposes of this workshop.
Personal Statement (maximum of 2 typed pages): Share your motivation for applying and provide your perspective on the following questions:
– What role did improvisation play in theater and/or dance in the second half of the twentieth century? What is its role today?
– How do the body and voice synergistically relate in theatrical improvisation practice?
All application materials must be submitted by the stated deadline. Late applications will not be considered.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Applications will be reviewed by a dedicated panel, which will compile a list of successful candidates based on the following primary criteria:
- Knowledge of the Theory and History of Theatrical Improvisation in the 20th century
- Previous Experience and Specific Training: Participation in performances, workshops, and seminars related to theatrical improvisation.
- Motivation: Alignment with the workshop’s training objectives as expressed in the personal statement.
Additional consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate a willingness to participate in knowledge-sharing practices and engage in cultural exchange and dialogue.
The selection committee may contact candidates directly for interviews to gain further insight into their profiles and interests.

Selected candidates will be notified via email.
Successful applicants must confirm their participation within 5 days of receiving the notification. Failure to do so will result in exclusion from the shortlist.
